Whole 30 so far! :)

As many of you know, I started Whole 30 about 24 days ago…and at that point, I had no idea what I was getting myself in to! I knew it would be hard. I knew it would test my mental strength more than anything. But I really didn’t know it was going to do things to help my mood, my skin, my hair…just everything.

For those of you who DON’T know what Whole 30 is, you can find all of the information on their website. Everything is laid out from the rules to tools to use to help you and also a timeline of how you may or may not feel each day while going through this process!! This site has helped me tremendously! I also did a lot of research for recipes on Pinterest & Instagram (aren’t hashtags just the BEST)! And I even joined a Whole 30 Facebook group that is very supportive. And of course, the book that explains EVERYTHING called It Starts With Food. I recommend one or all of these things to keep you on track and also to help you remember that you aren’t alone!!


I know I’m not done yet, but I just wanted to let you all know that if you are contemplating it…DO IT!!! Just take the plunge and try it. I will say, however, that I do believe you need to mentally prepare yourself for what you are about to do. You are going to know every ingredient going into your body and you need to know how to pronounce all things! There’s no excuses on this. And there is no “cheating” (as so many people like to call it) during the 30 days.

I know there is an OFFICIAL Whole 30 that is being run by the Whole 30 creators themselves that starts on August 1st! There’s a couple of days from now until then to get yourself prepared & ready to go! Are you up for the challenge?! You won’t be disappointed!!! :) I’m going to do a complete write up of the entire Whole 30 journey for me when I’m all done. But I just wanted you guys to have the above resources to help you get started ASAP!

      I wish you the absolute best, Meaghen!! I think you will love it! Let me know if you have any questions along the way. But DEFINITELY keep the “timeline” printed & posted somewhere! I have looked at it every single day to make myself realize that I am not alone on this journey. The mental aspect of this is the hardest part in the beginning! :)

      • I completed a whole 30 recently and had major improvements in my skin. No weight loss though. After my whole 30 I had one cheat meal and I was SO sick from it. So, whole 30 will be my way of life now, but I really want/need to lose some weight! I would love to be added to any support groups on FB that may be able to guide me a bit better. I followed the plan to a T! Idk why I haven’t lost.

          Hey Debbie! I have no idea if I have lost weight either & I honestly don’t know that I will. But I know for sure I have been losing inches & I feel 100x better! And for me that was what all of this was about! :) If you click the link in my post about the Facebook group, you should be able to ask to join and then someone will add you there! Have you been working out while also on Whole 30? I wish you the absolute best!! And remember to always go by how you FEEL more than anything. And the weight loss will come :)

    I’m seriously considering this. Both my husband and I need a lifestyle change. I trust your advice and have followed your suggestions actually quite often.
    This one is different though because I already see obstacles. For example, I travel frequently for work & I would need to give up social drinking on the boat for the rest of the summer (no smart comments please).

      I know what you mean and I totally felt the same way before I started! And honestly, I have had to say no more than once to going out with friends this past month. But I wouldn’t change it for the world because the reward of how I feel has been very worth the sacrifice! I don’t know what to say about the drinking as there is no way around that during whole 30 (not even straight vodka), but I’m sure if you wanted it bad enough, you could make it work! I have gone out while others were eating pizza (my favorite) and drinking fruity drinks (also my favorite) and it was not as bad as I thought it would be at all to just say no to it! I definitely recommend reading the book that explains all of Whole 30 called It Starts With Food as well…it will help you a lot! Wishing you the best!

  4. I’m doing a boot camp on the Biggest Loser website and one of my team members is doing this (tomorrow is her last day). She said that she feels better than she has in a long time and she has dropped a lot of weight. I will be very anxious to hear about your whole journey. I’d love to try this but not sure I can survive 30 days of it! Very anxious to hear what you do after the 30 days are over…..

      I’m only a week away and I really think I will feel just as good about it all or better at the end!! It’s been eye opening & you really prove to yourself how strong you are mentally and physically. It’s wonderful! I would recommend it to anyone! I will certainly keep you all posted about the entire 30 days when I’m all done! xoxo

  5. I completed my first Whole 30 last week. It was the first time in my life (sad to say) I’ve not eaten sugar or junk food for an extended amount of time. I didn’t think I could do it, but I did and the recipes I made were so delicious! After a week of splurges/non-paleo eating I know a whole 30/paleo approach to eating is what I need to be doing at least 80-90% of the time. Congrats for making a great choice for your health, and making it almost 30 days!

      I’m so happy you finished yours, Kara, and that you feel great! I am feeling the same!! I still have certain cravings, but the way I feel inside & out has been the best in a while! I definitely love the paleo way of life :)

    How do you stay focused through the entire program, I know for myself I always start and then a few days later give up. I want to start this program and actually finish it but I’m afraid when it gets too hard I’ll just give up.

      Well that’s your problem right there, Cort. You are already manifesting not being able to do it! You’ve gotta tell yourself that you WILL finish the 30 days with no excuses!!! As I said, the timeline really helps on the days you are feeling weak, hungry, moody, ect. and will let you see that you are not alone! Remember. This is ONLY 30 DAYS!!! 30 days to change your life & your outlook on food. I didn’t believe it when I started either, but it has been wonderful! No excuses…you can do ANYTHING for 30 days!! :)

    I have been following your journey on Facebook with the Whole 30. Both my daughter and I began on the same day you did, and it has been and eye-opening experience. She has lost 25 pounds so far, and I have lost 15 pounds and a dress size. I would definitely encourage anyone to take the challenge. It has truly made a difference for me, and I am planning to continue with a paleo lifestyle change. Best wishes for your remaining days on the program.

  8. I am Julia’s teammate on the Biggest Loser club website. I finish my whole 30 in 2 hour 22 minutes. I am so very proud of myself for a sticking with it. I have still gone out places, but because I followed the meal template strictly I have not been hungry at all. That has allowed me to say I no, and visit in comfort. If I just said no to going out, then I would feel deprived.
    I did my first whole 30 last September. I crashed on day 22, my birthday. I jumped back on, but still felt really bad about it. I gained weight during that month. I have no natural ability to want to stop eating something. I know that I need more feedback, not measuring my food, and weighing did not work for me. I think you must follow all the rules the first time. Then decide what works for you. I have lost over 16#, and a size in my jeans.
    I am going to the Biggest Loser ranch in Malibu next month. Pretty exciting stuff!

    Well I was on day 10 and everything just fell apart. I too needed a treat about that time and then just can’t seem to get back on the plan. I stayed on it for almost 10 days which is longer than any other plan in a long time. Any suggestions to get back on and then I guess it is Day 1 again. Thanks and you look beautiful. Congratulations on your engagement.
